Dr. Denise Rogers will spotlight a group of groundbreaking African American artists who are redefining the boundaries of contemporary art. Through an exploration of their diverse works—ranging from intricate paintings to interdisciplinary installations—this presentation will examine how these creators engage with themes of identity, cultural heritage, and social transformation. Featured artists, including Alisa Sikelianos-Carter, Devan Shimoyama, and Fahamu Pecou, will be discussed in depth, offering insights into their unique artistic practices and their role in shaping cultural narratives. This lecture invites attendees to reflect on the power of art to inspire, challenge, and innovate in today’s world.
