Virtual Event

You’re invited! Join the South Asian Arts Council (SAAC) for the annual SAAC Social. SAAC virtual socials are conversational events that offer the opportunity to “mingle” and get to know one another within the context of an art theme, plus cocktails are welcome!

This year we will honor Dr. B. N. Goswamy, who recently passed away. Very well known to the SAAC community, Dr. Goswamy had deep connections to the Museum’s Binney Collection, and was instrumental in bringing this collection to the world stage through his monographs and catalogs.

To honor Dr. Goswamy at the event, we will use his popular masterpiece, The Spirit of Indian Painting: Close Encounters with 101 Great Works 1100-1900 to facilitate discussion. Of the 101 works highlighted in the book, 13—more than a tenth—are from the Binney Collection.

For our gathering, we ask that each attendee choose one of the 13 Binney Collection works, and share with us why this particular work caught your eye. Images of all 13 works are available online here.

Additionally, the 13 works are detailed below with links to the Museum’s collection webpages.

Share your selection and thoughts: To facilitate the event, SAAC is preparing a presentation of all the participants' choices. Please pick an image and email us the link with a three-to-four-line summary of your thoughts to Jai Varadaraj at [email protected] with your full name.

Dress to impress: It has been our tradition to wear something South Asian—it could be a scarf, jewelry, hair band, hat, clothing, or anything you wish, as long as it is visible on screen.

Ravi Reddy will start off the evening with a very short presentation about Dr. B. N. Goswamy.

This event is free, but registration is required.

Register now to save your spot. All participants will be sent the Zoom link and instructions via email once you secure your place.
