Be part of the Art of Reading Book Club, where art, literature, and art history converge.
Join fellow Museum members in August to discuss Keeping an Eye Open: Essays on Art by Julian Barnes. This collection of essays by Booker Prize-winning author Julian Barnes explores the lives and work of major artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Featuring works like The Raft of the Medusa and artists such as Édouard Manet and Lucian Freud. Insightful, engaging, and deeply human, this collection is perfect for anyone who’s ever stood before a painting and wanted to understand what it was saying—and why it matters.
Coffee and light snacks will be served. The book club will be followed by a docent-led tour of art works relating to the book.
Please save your spot by Wednesday, August 5. Prior to entry, all participants are required to check in at the SDMA rotunda admissions desk, after which you will meet in the Museum boardroom.
