What we see depends on how close or far away we are from an object or scene, as well as the light and our focus. It also depends on the prism through which we view the world beyond our own. In this virtual tour we will dissect how point of view influenced perceptions in the genre of art known as “Orientalism,” which shared romanticized depictions of places and people “East” of a Eurocentric frame of reference. In this virtual tour, we will explore how these artists presented images, realistic and imagined, of the Islamic world.
