Bus Tour: Geffen Contemporary at MOCA & LA Arts District

Join us for an educational and entertaining trip to The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA to see the MONUMENTS exhibition and explore the LA Arts District!

MONUMENTS at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA

The MONUMENTS exhibition marks the recent wave of monument removals as an historic moment. The exhibition reflects on the histories and legacies of post-Civil War America as they continue to resonate today, bringing together a selection of decommissioned monuments, many of which are Confederate, with contemporary artworks borrowed and newly created for the occasion.

LA Arts District

Explore the Los Angeles Arts District, including a guided tour of the Hauser & Wirth gallery, currently featuring the following two exhibitions:

• Works of art by Los Angeles-based artist Christina Quarles created in the wake of the wildfires in Altadena and reflecting an acute sense of displacement.
• Destiny is a Rose, the Eileen Harris Norton collection, with more than 80 works that together reflect Harris Norton’s prescient vision and commitment to social justice and learning, including such artists as Mark Bradford, , Glenn Ligon, Betye Saar, Lorna Simpson, and Jack Whitten, among others.

Enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant of your choice and discover smaller galleries in the area. A sheet of gallery and lunch suggestions will be provided upon tour signup.

Tour ticket includes travel to The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA and the LA Arts District, admission and guided tours of MONUMENTS and Hauser & Wirth Downtown LA, and morning and afternoon snacks. Lunch not included.

7:30 a.m. | Coffee and breakfast treats available

7:45 a.m. | Arrive in Balboa Park

8:00 a.m. | Bus departs from Balboa Park (from the South Inspiration Point Parking Lot, across from Park Blvd.)

8:30 a.m. | Bus picks up guests at the La Costa Park and Ride (710 La Costa Avenue)

11:00 a.m. | Arrive at Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, admission and private tour included

12:45 p.m. | Bus transportation from Geffen Contemporary to the LA Arts District

1:00 p.m. | Lunch in LA Arts District

3:00 p.m. | Guided tour of Hauser & Wirth exhibitions, admission and private tour included

4:30 p.m. | Depart Hauser & Wirth for San Diego, snack tray and small bottle of wine or non-alcoholic drink provided

7:00 p.m. | Estimated arrival at La Costa Park and Ride

8:00 p.m. | Estimated arrival at Balboa Park

Pick-Up Locations

Balboa Park

Bus will leave from the South Inspiration Point Parking Lot, across from Park Blvd.

Please arrange your own parking in the South Inspiration Park lot: $5 for San Diego residents and $10 for non-residents.

Coffee and breakfast treats will be available from 7:30 a.m.

Bus will leave promptly at 8:00 a.m.

North County

Bus will pick up at the La Costa Park and Ride (710 La Costa Avenue).

Please arrive no later than 8:15 a.m.

Bus will leave promptly at 8:30 a. m.
